Great Bay Resort to reopen February 12

PHILIPSBURG--Great Bay Resort's revised opening date is Saturday, February 12.

The resort's hotel section was scheduled to reopen on Saturday, January 22. However, due to delays with the shipping of needed materials and the extent of the structural work that had to be done on the buildings, it became necessary to revise the opening date, Resort Managing Director Keith Graham told The Daily Herald.

All of the public areas and all of the hotel rooms except 30 that should be finished about two weeks after the opening are ready to receive guests. The 52 timeshare units are still slated for completion in April.

The resort is fully booked for its new opening date and has been booked since January 22. The guests booked for now to February 12 are being accommodated at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and other hotels on the island.

Air Transat vacation packages from Canada account for the majority of the booked rooms and other bookings are based on outside registrations.

Formerly Great Bay Beach Resort, a three star property, Great Bay Resort will have an integrated four star status when it reopens.

A new feature of the resort is the 52 timeshare units. The 75 rooms that made up the back wing of the property have been converted into the 52 one- and two-bedroom timeshare units.

A new beachside restaurant has been added to the existing three restaurants with cuisine including Caribbean and Italian. A new infinite edge pool will also be added.

The renovation of the property was carried out for more than US $10 million.

Great Bay Resort has been a flagship for the island with its constant market presence and has been a favourite for many vacationers from Canada and Puerto Rico.
